Directions
To dehydrate watermelon, you'll need a dehydrator (or an oven set to a low temperature) and some watermelon slices. Here's how to get started:
Start by preparing the watermelon. Cut it into thin slices, about 1/4 inch thick. Remove any seeds or rinds.
Place the watermelon slices in a single layer on the dehydrator trays. Set the dehydrator to 135°F (57°C). Dehydrate the watermelon for 6-12 hours, or until it is dry and leathery.
Check the watermelon slices periodically to make sure they are dehydrating evenly. If some slices are drying faster than others, remove them from the dehydrator or oven and let the rest continue to dry.
Once the watermelon is fully dehydrated, let it cool completely. Then, store it in an airtight container or bag in a cool, dry place. Dehydrated watermelon will last for several months if stored properly.
- Dehydrated watermelon is a delicious and convenient snack on its own, but it can also be used in a variety of dishes. Try adding it to granola or trail mix, or use it to make watermelon jerky. You can also rehydrate the watermelon by soaking it in water or adding it to a recipe that includes liquid.
Have fun experimenting with dehydrated watermelon, and enjoy the taste of summer all year round!
